Criminal Records and Rental Applicants

There have been numerous discussions recently about extending “Fair Housing Protections” to individuals with criminal records in Connecticut. In the opinion of Bob DeCosmo, president of CTPOA this is an attack against private property rights and something that the citizens of Connecticut must oppose.

Today, we have become a society of second and third chance opportunities and that is OK but when it comes to repeat criminal activities, its not. Landlords must have the right to choose who enters their properties as they will be held accountable for the actions of their criminal tenants if something bad occurs inside their building. Denying an owner the right to refuse entry to a tenant with a criminal record is a very slippery slope.
